The Ghost sits on your car’s CAN network and asks for a PIN before the engine will pull away. You set the PIN using buttons that are already inside your car, things like the steering wheel controls, the door pad or the centre console. To anyone else it just looks like a normal car.

This makes it very effective against relay attacks, key cloning and ECU swap theft, which are the three most common ways modern vehicles are being taken today.

How the Autowatch Ghost immobiliser stops a modern theft

The Autowatch Ghost immobiliser sits on the CAN bus and waits for a PIN sequence tapped out on buttons your car already has before it will let the engine pull away. Because there is no fob, no LED and no aerial, a thief who has relayed or cloned your key gets in, gets the engine to turn, and then sits there going nowhere. That is a very different situation from an alarm, which announces itself and can be worked around. It is also why the Ghost has become the default fit on driveways where relay attacks are common.

Living with a PIN sequence day to day

People worry that a PIN will be a nuisance. In practice it takes a second or two, uses buttons you already touch on the wheel or door card, and becomes muscle memory inside a week. Service mode lets a garage or valet move the vehicle without knowing your sequence, and there is an emergency override procedure for the day a button fails or somebody else has to drive. We set the sequence with you, watch you use it a few times before we leave, and write nothing down in the vehicle.

Ghost, Scorpion or a tracker

An immobiliser stops the car being driven away. A tracker helps you get it back if it is lifted onto a flatbed or stolen with the keys in your hand. They solve different halves of the same problem, so most customers with a targeted model end up with both.
